The Department of Human Affairs has a unique structure. Unlike other government departments, it consists of entirely two semi-autonomous units; the Human Rights Commission
and Consumer Affairs
. Each of these units has its own legislation, its own Board or Commission and its own statutory functions. The staff of each unit answers to both the Chairperson of their respective Board or Commission, and to the Director of Human Affairs. Coordination of the affairs of these units and the linkage to government is provided by the Department's Administration Unit.
